Privacy
Trailhead helps you figure out what work could fit you. To do that well, and to make Trailhead better, we keep a record of what you do and say here. This page says exactly what that record contains, why we keep it, who else touches it, and how to have it deleted. If something here surprises you, write to us — the address is at the bottom.
1. What we collect
- What you do on Trailhead. Pages and careers you open, what you search for, what you click, which steps of the trail you reach, and how long things take.
- What you say and make. Your conversations with the AI guide, both sides. Every choice you make in a simulated shift and anything you type there, including replies and plans you write on task beats. Your answers to the intake questions. Notes you add to your profile. Careers you ask us to generate. We keep these in full.
- Where you are, approximately. Your network address (IP) and the city-level location it suggests, plus your time zone. We do not ask your device for its precise location.
- Your browser and device. Browser type, language, screen size, the site that sent you here, and the address you arrived at (including any tracking tags in the link).
- A browser id. A random id stored in your browser (in local storage and in a cookie named
trailhead_vidthat lasts one year). It lets us recognize the same browser on a later visit and tie your record together. It is not your name. - Your email, if you give it. When you sign in, or when you add it to a feedback message. If you sign in, we connect your email to the record this browser built before you signed in.
- Payments. Handled by Stripe. We see that you paid and for what; we never see your card number.
2. Why
- To make Trailhead work: the guide needs your conversation, a shift needs your choices, your profile needs your saved careers.
- To make Trailhead better: reading what real people say and do here is how we learn what helps and what doesn't.
- To understand who uses Trailhead and where, so we know what to build next and where to look for schools and employers.
- To follow up with you if you gave us an email, or if you arrived from a message we sent.
- To keep the AI budget fair across everyone, which means counting how much each browser uses.
We do not sell your data, and we do not run advertising.
3. Who else handles it
We run Trailhead on services that process data on our behalf: Anthropic (the AI that powers the guide, shifts, and reads: it receives what you type in order to respond), Supabase (our database), Vercel (hosting and basic site analytics), Stripe (payments), and Resend (sends us your feedback messages by email). We do not share your record with anyone else unless the law requires it.
4. Students using a class code
If you use Trailhead through a code from a counselor or teacher, Trailhead never asks for your name or email. Where your school or district has signed a data-privacy agreement with us, that agreement governs and takes precedence over anything inconsistent here.
5. Age
Trailhead is intended for high-school students age 13 and older, and the adults who support them. It is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used Trailhead, tell us and we will delete the record.
6. How long we keep it
Until you ask us to delete it. We keep records so that your profile, your reads, and the things you made are there when you come back.
7. Your choices
- Start fresh: clearing this site's cookies and site data in your browser gives you a new browser id. Your old record stays on our side unless you ask us to delete it.
- Delete everything: email us from the address you signed in with, or send us the browser id shown at the bottom of your profile, and we will delete every record tied to it.
- See what we have: ask, and we will send you a copy.
8. Changes
When our practices change, this page changes, with the date at the top. Big changes get a note on the site.
